Ambulance Dispatcher

Ambulance Dispatcher Duties & Responsibilities: Operate radio, telephone, or computer equipment at emergency response centers. Receive reports from the public of crimes, disturbances, fires, and medical or police emergencies. Relay information to law enforcement and emergency response personnel. May maintain contact with caller until responders arrive. Salary: The median annual wage for ambulance dispatchers was $36,300 in May 2012. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount, and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $23,190, and the top 10 percent earned more than $56,580. Education: Regardless of previous training, ambulance dispatchers usually receive on-the-job training on how to respond to incoming emergency and non-emergency telephone calls in their specific work environment and how to use a particular dispatch computer system. Some states also require emergency medical dispatchers who work for either public agencies or private ambulance companies to obtain state licensing. Specific training and testing is usually required, and licensed ambulance dispatchers may have to complete continuing education and maintain a valid CPR certification to renew their license. Add a Picture: Reflection: Do you think you would like to be one? Why?Why not? I think id like to be one because id be able to save lives and listen to what emergencies they have, and knowing that they call my line is pretty cool, along with answering the phone which will keep me busy. I wouldn’t want to ne one because what if I mess up on the job and answer wrong or speak wrong like I wouldn’t want that to happen to me, also it doesn’t seem like the job for me.
